The Best, Classic Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

  • 4 large tomatoes , cored and diced
  • 2 medium to large onions , diced
  • 3 cloves garlic , minced or crushed
  • 1/2 cup minced fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar (optional)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. When hot, add olive oil and heat until glistening.
  2. Add onions, turn heat to medium-low and sauté until translucent.
  3. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
  4. Add tomatoes and vinegar, turn heat to low and simmer for 25-35 minutes, until mixture has reduced.
  5. Add basil and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve over cooked pasta and top with shaved Parmesan cheese. Yum!
