The Best, Classic Tomato Sauce

Ingredients
- 4 large tomatoes , cored and diced
- 2 medium to large onions , diced
- 3 cloves garlic , minced or crushed
- 1/2 cup minced fresh basil leaves
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar (optional)
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- salt and pepper
Instructions

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. When hot, add olive oil and heat until glistening.

Add onions, turn heat to medium-low and sauté until translucent.

Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.

Add tomatoes and vinegar, turn heat to low and simmer for 25-35 minutes, until mixture has reduced.

Add basil and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve over cooked pasta and top with shaved Parmesan cheese. Yum!
Recipe Notes
This is a classic Italian recipe I learned from some Italian friends. You can adjust the quantities to make larger or smaller batches.
